SFPA Mission

Creating a community for psychologists and opportunities for professional growth. SFPA has created an engaging and supportive community for all psychologists who work or live in San Francisco. SFPA members exchange knowledge and ideas, obtain consultation on ethical and business issues, and learn about professional and educational opportunities. SFPA provides networking and referral opportunities through our meetings, CE courses, events, and our SFPA Psychologist Locator Service. In all of our activities we have a committed and continued interest in supporting diversity in our membership, leadership, and educational offerings.

Giving back to our broader community. SFPA is committed to contributing to the citizens of San Francisco. Our members offer their knowledge and services through a variety of our public service programs including our speakers bureau, public education and outreach, student mentorship program, and pro-bono mental health services during disasters.

Advocating for quality mental health care for all. SFPA members work with the California Psychological Association and the California State Legislature to promote mental health and substance use programs and quality mental health care for all individuals. We also work to ensure that psychologists can provide that quality, culturally sensitive care within their full scope of practice.

Cultivating the future generation of psychologists. SFPA is dedicated to supporting the individuals who form the future of our profession: the psychology graduate students and early career psychologists. Members can join our student mentorship program, and students can join our vibrant sister organization, the San Francisco Psychological Association of Graduate Students (SFPAGS).
